The Walkera QR X350 quadcopter drone is a serious video drone designed to take large images from relatively high altitudes. There’s been a great deal of buzz over the fact that it uses a brushless power system, which helps to reduce maintenance and keeps you from having to periodically replace motor brushes. This was enough to stir our curiosity. Hence the Walkera QR X350 review we’ve written for you.
This makes it attractive for those who are going to put their drone through a fair amount of abuse. We were interested in doing some more research on a drone that many people considered extremely reliable, so we took a look at everything we could when putting together this review in order to offer the fairest look possible.
Walkera QR X350 Main Specs
|Camera Resolution||Weight||Ideal for (Indoor/Outdoor/Both)||Flight Time||Control Type||Amazon Rating||Our Rating|
|1920×1080 on some models||2 lbs.||Indoor & Outdoor||12 mins.||Devo F7 Twin Stick||3 stars||3 stars|
One first thing that research for our Walkera QR X350 review showed was that there is not one standard Walker QR kit.
So what you get with your QR X350 depends on the specific kit you buy. You might end up with an iLooK camera on some models that shoots massive 1920×1080 photographs and captures incredible video. Kits that come with the iLooK camera also come with a high-quality G-2D gimbal circuit.
This makes stabilizing the photographs extremely simple. On the other hand, you might end with neither of these items. In that case, you’ll have to supply them yourself, which could be an issue if you already paid full price for a brand-new drone kit.
Flying the Walkera QR X350 Drone
We tested the Walker drone when preparing this Walkera QR X350 review. We found some interesting things.
Walkera QR X350 drones are sort of a hybrid of several design paradigms. They feature a one key home return system along with a GPS altitude hold routine, but X350 models also allow you to take manual control over each aspect of the flight if you’d prefer to. A compass sensor helps you maintain direction, but the drone doesn’t force you to fly any specific way.
In some ways, this actually makes flying the X350 closer to flying an actual airplane, since the instruments are merely there to help you as the pilot make decisions rather than take over all aspects of the flight.
Walkera QR X350 Drone Remote Control & Accessories
The Devo F7 remote control unit that comes with most versions of the QR X350 is one among several different controllers designed to mimic those of regular RC airplanes and monster trucks. It features a pair of joysticks that have a ton of action in them. They snap back against a pilot’s gestures much more than those of most controllers, which makes it much easier for people experienced with other RC vehicles to use them.
Each QR kit comes with:
- X350 drone body
- 4x propellers
- Devo F7 remote control
- Compass Sensor unit
- LiPO battery
Keep in mind that many versions of the drone don’t actually include a camera or gimbal. Some may also omit the GPS receiver to meet a certain price point.
Walkera QR X350 Drone – Our Verdict
What We Like
This is what we appreciate about the drone, that we thought worth mentioning in our Walkera QR X350 review.
We loved the fact that the brushless motors don’t wear out very quickly. Replacing servomechanisms in drones can be very difficult considering the sizes involved, so it’s nice to not have to worry about that at all with this model. On top of that, we found that it was easy enough to fly without much practice. It should be a great pick for anyone who has experience flying another drone.
What We Don’t Like
If you let the battery go completely dead, then you’ll be waiting quite some time for it to charge up again. Some users reported waiting up to 15 hours before they were able to fly again, though most tests don’t show anything that dramatic. The variations between different kits mean that you might not always know what your set comes with. That’s a problem that’s long plagued DJI’s drones, and it now seems that other manufacturers are starting to suffer from the same issue.
What Users Say
UX is one important criterion that we took into consideration in the final part of our Walkera QR X350 review.
User reviews of the QR X350 tend to be extremely polarizing, with one user complaining that they had to write a letter to the manufacturer about what they perceived as defects with their drone. A much more positive missive mentioned that the lengthy charge cycle was really the only issue anyone should have with it. A third user had the best experience of all, saying that their drone was easy to fly and didn’t have many issues with it.
Walkera’s QR series of quadcopters seem extremely reliable, though they do suffer from an unfortunate battery problem that causes the charge cycle to take a long time. This caveat, as well as the fact that it’s difficult to find the right kit containing everything you need, hurt the drone’s reputation. However, it’s certainly an extremely solid drone that’s easy to fly and requires very little maintenance to keep it in good shape.
Before ending, if you’re looking for something more soliciting, here’s our DJI Phantom 4 review, for those who have the pro skills for flying this awesome drone. Let us know what you think, we value our readers’ opinions and suggestions, so don’t hold back!
